Biden scraps Number 45’s planned paint scheme for Air Force One
Biden scrapped the Air Force One paint scheme proposed
by the Orange Antichrist over cost. A new study showed the darker color could have
caused heating problems on some of the airplane’s components.
The former president got personally involved in
negotiations for Boeing’s Air Force One replacement soon after he took office,
bragging on Twitter that he had successfully reduced the price of the contract
with Boeing by “over $1 billion.” In a subsequent development, Boeing signed a
$3.9 billion contract with the Air Force. The contract specified that Boeing
would be responsible for any cost increases that went beyond the agreed-upon
budget. Orange Julius Caesar’s involvement in the project didn’t stop there. In
2019, he told ABC News he wanted a new red, white, and blue paint scheme, which
bore a striking resemblance to his private 757. When Biden took office, he was
faced with a decision on whether to keep 45’s paint scheme or go back to the
traditional colors.
Biden got to scrap a personal project of the
former president while taking credit for saving taxpayer dollars. It also posed
one less headache for Boeing to worry about. The former president’s plan called
for dark blue paint covering the plane’s underbelly and engines, which could
have contributed to excessive temperatures on the aircraft so the company would
have had to pay out-of-pocket for the extra cooling costs.
The new Air Force One fleet, when it arrives
later this decade, will keep its iconic JFK-era light blue-and-white look.
